Melanie Fogel, editor of Storyteller Magazine wrote to us to let us know about the great review of Tanya Huff's new book "Stealing Magic".

"Stealing Magic collects eleven of Tanya Huff’s previously published stories, featuring the series characters Terazin, the ingenious thief and Magdalene, the world’s most powerful wizard. In effect, it’s two books. One can read all of Magdalene stories, flip the book over and voila! A whole new book, with its own cover, full of Terazin stories. Or one can flip and reflip, depending on one’s mood, as the characters, and therefore their stories, are quite different." - Storyteller Magazine

According to Donna McMahon, who reviews for both On Spec and SF Site:

"Tanya Huff fans will want this book, plain and simple. Not only are the stories good, the packaging is brilliant. Stealing Magic is bound like an old Ace double--one side for the Terazin stories, and one for the Magdalene stories--making for a great bi-directional read, with double cover art by David Willicome that's both handsome and suitable to the stories."

Stealing Magic is currently available online at www.edgewebsite.com, and will be released into US bookstores in May.

Australian SF Author Lives in Fear of Squid

When K.A. Bedford, first started writing novels he told his lovely wife Michelle that if he started saying that he could write, that she was to hit him with a squid.

However, with Bedford being a finalist for the Australian Aurealis award (Australia's top science fiction award), and with the powerful accolades that he is receiving for his new book "Eclipse" - Adrian just might have to take cover.

Luckily, I do suppose he could be saved on a technicality, in that it is OTHER people saying that he is well worth keeping an eye on...

"You'll be scared, brutalized, treated like scum, given lousy work to do and caught up in the schemes of others, but … Gosh! You'll be an officer in the Royal Interstellar Service!" - Based loosely on an old Royal Australian Navy recruiting campaign

ECLIPSE

His new book "Eclipse" is a taut psychological thriller set in the claustrophobic confines of a starship where nothing is as terrifyingly alien as humanity itself.

People like Ralph Briggs from "Yet Another Book Review" say this about "Eclipse":

"This is a relentless story, pounding the reader into sensory shock as we witness the never ending plight of our poor protagonist. But, author Bedford deserves maximum kudos for not stopping there. He also imbues Officer Dunne, with a realistically sympathetic personality and history, that when confronted by the afore-hinted at atrocities, reacts in ways that the reader can't help but empathise with. Throw in a some unrealized love aspirations...that are beautifully underplayed, and ECLIPSE, becomes one of the best SF stories I have read in a long while." -

And Fast Forward Magazine has this to say:

"A dark, brutal sci-fi tale that alternately recalls Platoon, Lord of the Flies and the aforementioned Dick. The novel follows the exploits of James Dunne, newly graduated from the brutal Royal Interstellar Service Academy, whose first flight into space turns out to be a violent nightmare"

Praise for Bedford's work has not been limited to "Eclipse", his first book "Orbital Burn" had its share of fine press.

As for Bedford's reaction? He is chuffed. (A unique Australian word that translates to "thrilled")

However, continuing to live in fear of the squid, Bedford, just keeps his focus, and continues to write daily.

His next book "Hydrogen Steel" is scheduled to have a special release celebration at the World Science Fiction convention being held in Los Angeles, where Bedford will be available to sign books at the EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing Booth.

"Eclipse" is being released in both US and Australia in March.
